the werkstattkino, an alternative cinema for an alternative audience. small and dark with an air of damp mothballs. it is here that exactly those films are shown which nowhere else are shown: trash, monster movies, sex films of the seventies, documentary and experimental films in the tradition of the independent film centre. accordingly public prosecutors took a lively interest in the program of the cinema because of excessive presentation of violence, offence of sexual morality or controversial political contents. however, it was also a hide-out for nan goldin and artists like romuald karmakar or anatol nitschke took their first steps into the big film business here at the werkstattkino.
