robert lax is a great undiscovered poet of american poets.
He was a companion and contemporary of the jack kerouac and the beat generation. Furhthermore he was a close friend of the painter ad reinhardt and the catholic philosopher and author thomas merton.

»robert lax‘s works can hardly be viewed as a continuous text and he used reduction in language in a radical manner. words stand in space, reduced to a being as a linguistic sign, as circles, lines on the paper or sounds in space. When he repeats words and combines words in the form of a meditative ritual it is just because the words are not always the same, time passes through them, crosses over them. lax makes it impossible to glance over his text by writing words and syllables one below the other, thus creating rhythmic and graphic structures. it is minimal poetry, the art of retardation.« (tim schomacker, jungle world)
